Days of Winters Passed

Woke up to approximately four inches of snow. But within an hour, it was about 3.5 inches due to the heavier sleet making the snow more compact. Then as the day wore on, another half inch of precipitation accumulated. Brian keeps a snow board setup in the yard that allows us to accurately measure snow. I'm not talking about downhill snowboards, but a wide, flat platform out in the open where snow can freely fall and accumulate without tumbling off. You can use a picnic table or whatever to do it.

Turns out, nine years ago today, we got a nice snow storm, as well. "We" meaning north of Pittsburgh, where I lived at that time. I vividly remember the night before, I was watching snow accumulate on power lines. It didn't dawn on me that I'd have a snow day the next day, but I did. So, what did I do? I built an igloo in the empty parking lot across the street. I don't know where the man-power came from that led to me piling snow into a heap bigger than an SUV, but I did it. Then, I hollowed out the sucker and built an entrance with the innards. Bad ass. I was 23 years old.

Posing near the entrance. I asked a passerby to take my picture.

Me, inside it.

View from the inside.

I had a snow day today, as well, but I didn't build an igloo. Brian was able to work from home due to the roads being pretty deplorable. What did I do today? I hate to say it, but a lot of nothing.

Well, if "nothing" means a lot of something while sitting around and snuggling with dogs. I had a busy day yesterday, went to the gym, etc., so I allowed myself a "rest day" today to catch up on some reading and planning. I'm slowly getting through a book by John McPhee. I planned and mapped out a hike that Brian, Silas, and I will be doing on Saturday. I went to work for a little bit.

This old, white Buick Riviera had been abandoned in front of my work place for some time now and I'm kind of smitten with it. The bumper is falling off and the rear window is broken. I wish I could have been a fly in a bush when it appeared there. See who the driver was, watch their demeanor as they shuffled away or got into another car to leave it behind. Poor handsome car.

I made homemade pho and now I'm going to continue reading and watching "The Martian" with Brian. Hopefully the plows do a nice job of cleaning up the roads tonight because the impending, frigid winds that are coming tonight will be turning all that slush and snow into ice.

Remember when driving in this weather: Be careful. Don't trust other drivers. Barely trust yourself. And don't be that dumb-ass who drives with a layer of snow/ice on the roof of your car.

Idiots.

Speaking of idiots, I have a grammar question regarding the "Subject Title" of this particular blog post.

Is it "Days of Winters Passed" as if many winters have passed? Or is it "Days of Winter's Past" as if Winter owns days in the past?

Or is it something else? I know. My idiot is showing.

I'm seriously stumped and went with what I thought was best. I mean, I'm only an English major.
