Top 10 Tuesday
Hello, all. Please enjoy my ten joys from this past week.
1. Dark Reminiscent of "Stranger Things" and "The OA", "Dark" is a German television series I found on Netflix. Mysterious and writhing with secrets, a small town in Germany is plagued with a cyclic phenomenon--one of which I know barely anything because I haven't finished the first season yet. But I'm definitely intrigued.
2. "Me and the Devil" by Soap&Skin The above show has an amazing soundtrack. I fell in love with this particular song. The lead singer has an amazing, bold voice that sounds like how mustard would sound if it sang. I know. That's weird, but it's mustard to me.
3. Florentine Madonna and Child I have added to my stamp collection. Maybe you'll get mail from me.

4. tinywords A year or years ago, a good friend introduced me to tinywords, a website that features glorious teaspoons of words for you to nurse throughout the day. If you subscribe to them, you can receive a small gem in your e-mail every day. You can also submit your own. I don't always make the time to look at the daily e-mails but have been looking at them more often lately.

5. Tree Trimming Brian and I went to JB Tree Farm to choose our lovely, crooked douglas fir that now adorns the apartment. We decorated it the next day, unveiling our childhood relic ornaments, the stories behind them, etc. I love Christmas for my own reasons and I'm very grateful that Brian is just as enthusiastic. It's nice to be with someone who doesn't just humor me, but joins me.

6. This Picture of My Mom & Sister I was digging through old photographs yet again. I rarely see many photographs of my sister under the age of 9 because that was a world without me. My mother and sister had just each other for several years before my father and then I came along. These were my mother's darkest days, having depression, etc. But that's not my story to tell. But all she had was my sister. And look at them. Look at the joy in my mom's face. Looking at her baby.

7. Planning A new year is coming and yes, I understand the linearity of time; however, the novelty is still there. After a year as rough as this one has been and still is, I am looking forward to what is ahead. I sort of hate writing that, but it's true. Good vibes. Adventures. A narrowing. Backing away from some things in order to get closer to other things. What do I have planned? Plenty of ideas are oscillating in my mind: hiking out west, some creative projects, adventures, etc. But just as importantly, being content when plan-less and still.
8. Open Stage Night The Greenbean Coffee House will be starting their open mic nights next month! It will be every Thursday from 6pm until closing. This coffee house is a short walk away from my apartment. This should be interesting!
9. Cooking with Ghosts A former professor of mine, Cathy Gutierrez, began a cooking blog. Over the past several years, her love for cooking and experimenting with intoxicating ingredients has unfurled its curious petals. It helps that she not long ago moved to Manhattan, NY where these ingredients are readily available (such a shocking difference from living in the Blue Ridge Mountains!). This blog, though, is completely new, but it's gorgeously written and peppered with lovely photographs. The motivation for her blog is to bring to life dishes inspired by the dead, folklore, etc. I'm always on the hunt for fascinating blogs.
10. Baltimore I'm going to Baltimore for New Year's Eve! It will be nice to end this year and begin the new year with an adventure.
